The "Ko-baikei-so" (Veratrum stamineum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan. This herb grows in montane to alpine marshes and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are broad elliptic and alternate. The spikes are borne and bloom small pale greenish-white flowers from June to August. The whole plant contents toxic alkaloid.
