わが国の各地に分布しています。山地や亜高山帯の湿地や草地に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は広線形で、１個だけつきます。６月から８月ごろ、茎の先端に総状花序をだし、淡い黄緑色の花を１０個ぐらい咲かせます。距が長く、跳ね上がるのが特徴です。基本種の「ほそばのきそちどり（細葉の木曽千鳥）」の距は下に曲がります。

ラン科ツレサギソウ属の多年草で、学名は Platanthera tipuloides var. nipponica。英名はありません。

"Kobano-tonbo-so" (Platanthera tipuloides var. nipponica) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan. This herb grows in montane to sub-alpine marshes and grasslands, and it can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are broad linear and solitary. The pale yellowish-green, around 10 flowers bloom in the racemes atop of stems from June to August. It is characterised by turning up spurs. The elementary species "Hosobano-kiso-chitori" is characterised by turning down spurs.
