ファレノプシス属の原種は、ヒマラヤから東南アジア、オーストラリアに、５０種ほどが分布しています。代表的なものとしては、白色系では「ファレノプシス・アマビリス（Phalaenopsis amabilis）」、ピンク系では「ファレノプシス・スキレリアナ（Phalaenopsis schilleriana）」です。樹木などに着生するランで、葉は肉厚で互生し、長い花茎をのばして白色やピンク色、黄色の花を咲かせます。今ふつうに見ているのは、ほとんどが栽培品種です。 |

ラン科ファレノプシス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Phalaenopsis sp.（属の総称）。英名は Moth orchid。 |

The Moth orchid (Phalaenopsis sp.) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). About 50 original species of Phalaenopsis are native from the Himalaya Mountains to Southeast Asia and Australia. It is an evergreen perennial herb, epiphyte on other trees. Thick leaves are alternate and white, pink or yellow flowers come on long flowering stalks. Representative species are Phalaenopsis amabilis of white-flower ancestry and Phalaenopsis schilleriana of pink-flower ancestry. There are many cultivars seeing generally. |
