"Kogane-shida" (Woodsia macrochlaena) belongs to the family Woodsiaceae. It is a summer-green fern that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows on rocks under forests in mountainous areas. The rhizome is short and oblique, and a few leaves grow in clusters. The leaves are single-pinnate compound, 5-15 cm long. The pinnae are ovate to ovate-oblong, with medium to deep lobes. The petiole is brown to reddish brown and shiny, with dense reddish brown scales at the base. The sorus (a group of sporangia) are attached near the margins of the pinnae, and the indusium is cup-shaped and enclose the pinna.
