ユリ科ギボウシ属の多年草で、学名は Hosta albo-marginata (syn. Hosta sieboldii var. sieboldii f. spathulata)。英名は Variegated hosta。
The Variegated hosta (Hosta albo-marginata) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan. This herb grows in sunny marshes and can reach about 40 cm in height. The leaves and flowers are relatively small in hosta species. The flowers come in July to August. The flowers are defined by deep purple stripes inside of tepals. The Japanese name "Koba-giboushi" (Small-leaved baluster finial) is derived from the shape of bud clusters. Many cultivars have been breeded.
