カエデ科カエデ属の落葉高木で、学名は Acer sieboldianum。英名は Small fullmoom maple。
The Small fullmoom maple (Acer sieboldianum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in mountains and can reach 10-15 m in height. The leaves are roundish foreign papery, and palmately divided into 5-11 lobes with aucte serratus or duplicato-serratus edges. The small pale yellow flowers bloom in the terminal compound corymbs from May to June. Usually, male flowers and amphoteric flowers are mixed in one inflorescence. The fruits are samaras and ripen in June to September. The wings open almost 180-degree.
The petiole of "Small fullmoom maple" is the same length or two-thirds the length of the leaf blade, while the petiole of "Fullmoon maple" is one-half to one-quarter the length of the leaf blade.
