	わが国の本州から四国・九州に分布しています。山地に生え、高さは１０～１５メートルになります。樹皮は暗灰色で、成木は縦に浅く割れます。葉はほぼ円形の洋紙質で、掌状に５～１１中裂します。縁には鋭い単鋸歯または重鋸歯があります。５月から６月ごろ、枝先に複散房花序に淡黄色の小さな花を咲かせます。ふつうひとつの花序には、雄花と両性花が混在します。果実は翼果で、６月から９月に熟します。翼はほぼ水平に開きます。「こはうちわかえで」の葉柄の長さは、葉身と同長または３分の２あるのに対して、「はうちわかえで」は葉柄は、葉身の２分の１から４分の１の長さです。
	カエデ科カエデ属の落葉高木で、学名は Acer sieboldianum。英名は Small fullmoom maple。
	The Small fullmoom maple (Acer sieboldianum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in mountains and can reach 10-15 m in height. The leaves are roundish foreign papery, and palmately divided into 5-11 lobes with aucte serratus or duplicato-serratus edges. The small pale yellow flowers bloom in the terminal compound corymbs from May to June. Usually, male flowers and amphoteric flowers are mixed in one inflorescence. The fruits are samaras and ripen in June to September. The wings open almost 180-degree. The petiole of "Small fullmoom maple" is the same length or two-thirds the length of the leaf blade, while the petiole of "Fullmoon maple" is one-half to one-quarter the length of the leaf blade.
