"Ko-ikema" (Cynanchum wilfordii) belongs to Asclepiadaceae (the Milkweed family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and northern China. It grows in moist forest margins in mountainous areas and grows by twining itself around other plants. The ovate leaves grow in pairs and have thick rhizomes. From July to August, small white flowers bloom in umbels with peduncles shorter than the petiole from the leaf axils. The corolla is similar to that of the "Ikema", but the lobes of the corolla are oblique rather than recurved. In Chinese, it is called "隔山消" (ge shan xiao).
