わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から北海道に分布しています。山地から高山帯の林内や林縁に生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は広楕円形で根生し、基部は円形からくさび形です。７月から８月ごろ、穂状花序をだし、白色の花を２〜７個、下向きに咲かせます。

イチヤクソウ科イチヤクソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Pyrola alpina。英名はありません。

"Kobano-ichiyaku-so" (Pyrola alpina) belongs to the family Pyrolaceae. It is an everegreen herb and an endemic species of Japan and distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido. This herb grows in montane to alpine forests and can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are broad elliptic and basal with round to wedge-shaped bases. The spicate clusters is borne and the 2-7 white flowers bloom facing downward from July to August.
