わが国の本州、中部地方以北に分布しています。低山地の林床や林縁に生え、高さは１５〜２５センチになります。茎は疎らに叢生し、細長い根茎をだして広がります。４月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして、雄性の頂小穂と雌性の側小穂をつけます。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex sachalinensis var. iwakiana。英名はありません。

The "Ko-itosuge" (Carex sachalinensis var. iwakiana) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows in low mountain forest floors and edges, and can reach 15-25 cm in height. The stem is sparse clumping and spreads by slender rhizomes. The flowering stalks are borne and produce male acrogyrous spikes and female pleurogerous spikes from April to June.
