わが国の本州、関東地方以西から近畿地方に分布しています。山野に生え、蔓性で他の草などに絡みついて伸びます。葉は披針形から広披針形で対生します。７月から９月ごろ、葉腋から花柄を伸ばし、暗紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は５裂し、裂片はしばしば捩れます。果実は袋果で、熟すと裂開して種子を飛ばします。

ガガイモ科カモメヅル属の多年草で、学名は Cynanchum sublanceolatum。英名はありません。

"Koba-no-kamomezuru" (Cynanchum sublanceolatum) belongs to Asclepiadaceae (the Milkweed family). It is a perennial vine that is distributed to Honshu in Japan, west ward from Kanto district to Kinki district. This vine grows in fields and mountains, and climbs up adjacent herbs. The leaves are lanceolate to broad-lanceolate and opposite. The peduncles are borne on the axiles and bloom dark peuple flowers from July to September. The collora is divided into 5 lobes which is usually twisted. The fruits are follicles and the seeds are carried on the wind.
