The "Ko-keiran" (Oreorchis patens) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Sakhalin and the Kamchatska Peninsula. This herb grows in montane wettish forests and can reach 30-40 cm in height. The pseudo-bulbs are ovate and send out 2 lanceolate leaves. The racemes are borne on hte flowering stalks and the many yellowish-brown and white flowers bloom from May to June. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called 細花山蘭", and "山蘭" (shan lan) in Chinese.
