わが国の本州から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島南部や中国に分布しています。山地の谷間に生え、高さは１〜５メートルになります。倒卵形の葉は互生し、枝や葉に特有の臭気があります。雌雄異株です。４月から５月ごろ、前年枝に黄緑色の花を咲かせます。葉は肥料としたり、煎じて殺虫剤に使われるそうです。中国語では「臭常山（chou chang shan）」と呼ばれます。 |

The Orixa (Orixa japonica) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the southern Korean Peninsula and China. This tree grows in mountain dales and can reach 1-5 m in height. The leaves are obovate and alternate. The branches and leaves have characteristic odor. This tree is dioecism. The yellowish green flowers come in the new branches in April to May. The leaves are used for green manure and insecticide. In Chinese, it is called "臭常山" (chou chang shan). |
