北アメリカが原産です。わが国へは明治時代に渡来しました。現在では各地に帰化しています。河原や海岸の砂地に生えて、高さは２０〜６０センチほどになります。よく分枝して、しばしば地面を這って伸びます。葉は互生して、粗い鋸歯や波打ちがあります。６月から８月ごろ、鮮やかな黄色い花を夜に咲かせます。萎んだあとは赤みを帯びます。 |

アカバナ科マツヨイグサ属の二年草で、学名は Oenothera laciniata。英名は Cutleaf evening-primrose。 |

The Cutleaf evening-primrose (Oenothera laciniata) belongs to Onagraceae (the Evening primose family). It is a biennial herb that is native to North America. This herb was introduced into Japan in Meiji Era (about 130 years ago), and is now naturalized in various places. This herb grows in stream banks or sandy shore and can reach 20-60 cm in height. It is much branched and often creeping on the grounds. The leaves are alternate with coarsely toothed or wavy edges. Bright yellow flowers come in the night, June to August. They turn in reddish when faded. |
