わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。山野の道端や荒れ地に生え、高さは５０〜８０センチになります。茎や葉には「めなもみ（雌生揉）」のような目立った毛はなく、わずかに短い毛があります。葉は卵状三角形で、縁には不規則な鋸歯があります。９月から１１月ごろ、小さな黄色い花を咲かせます。細い５個の総苞片がヒトデの足のように飛び出しています。

キク科メナモミ属の一年草で、学名は Siegesbeckia orientalis ssp. glabrescens。英名はありません。

"Ko-menamomi" (Siegesbeckia orientalis ssp. glabrescens) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is distributed not only in various parts of Japan, but also in the Korean Peninsula and China. This herb grows on roadsides and wastelands in the mountains and can reach 50-80 cm in height. The stems and leaves do not have the prominent hairs of "Menamomi" (Siegesbeckia orientalis ssp. pubescens), but have slightly shorter hairs. The leaves are ovate-triangular with irregular serrations on the edges. The small yellow flowers come in September to November. Its five thin bracts pop out like a starfish's leg.
