わが国の本州から四国・九州に分布する「のこんぎく（野紺菊）」の園芸品種です。古くから観賞用に植栽されていて、自然に逸出して野生化もしています。８月から１１月ごろ、茎の上部に散房花序をだし、青紫色から紅紫色の頭花を咲かせます。「のこんぎく」より花色が濃くて、花付きが良いのが特徴です。

キク科シオン属の多年草で、学名は Aster microcephalus var. ovatus cv. Hortensis。英名はありません。

The "Kon-giku" (Aster microcephalus var. ovatus cv. Hortensis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster damily). It is a perennial herb that is a horticultural variety of the "Wild chrysanthemum", which is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It has been planted as an ornamental plant for a long time and has also grown wild. It produces corymbs at the top of the stem from August to November, with blue-purple to red-purple coloured flower heads. The flowers are darker in color and more floriferous than those of the "Wild chrysanthemum".
