「しゅろがやつり（棕櫚蚊帳釣）」の矮性の園芸品種です。高さは２５センチ程度になります。「しゅろがやつり」はマダガスカル、熱帯アフリカ原産の多年草で、明治中期に渡来、水辺の観葉植物として栽培されてきました。水質浄化にも大きな効果があるそうです。

カヤツリグサ科カヤツリグサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Cyperus alterfolius var. glacilis。英名は Dwarf umbrella plant。

The Dwarf umbrella plant (Cyperus alterfolius var. glacilis) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is an evergreen herb that is a dwarf cultivar of "Umbrella plant". This herb grows up about 25 cm in height. "Umbrella plant" is a perennial plant native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. It came to Japan in the middle of the Meiji Era (1868-1912) and has been cultivated as a waterside foliage plant. It seems to have a great effect on water purification.
