わが国の九州、鹿児島県の甑島列島の固有種です。山地の林内や谷沿いに生え、高さは１５〜４０センチになります。根生葉は長楕円形または倒披針形で、縁は波打ちます。茎葉は線形から披針形で、柄がありません。５月から６月ごろ、花茎の先に総状花序をだし、小さな白色の花を咲かせます。花披片は６個あります。形態的には、「しらいとそう」とよく似ています。

ユリ科シライトソウ属の多年草で、学名は Chionographis japonica ssp. yakusimensis var. koshikiensis。英名はありません。

"Koshiki-shiraito-so" (Chionographis japonica ssp. yakusimensis var. koshikiensis) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of the Koshiki Islands in Kagoshima prefecture, Japan. This herb grows in mountane forests or along streams, and can reach 15-40 cm in height. The basal leaves are oblong or oblanceolate with undulate edges. The cauline leaves are linear to lanceolate and sessile. The racemes are borne on the flowering stalks and bloom small white flowers from May to June. The flower has six tepals. This variety is remarkably-similar "Shiraito-so" in form.
