"Ko-yabutabako" (Carpesium cernuum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China, Russia and Southeast Asia. This herb grows in forests and forest edges of hills and fields, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are cochleariform-oblong with serrate edges. The greenish white flower-heads bloom discending at the axils and terminal branches from July to September. The flower-head has leafy bracts and involucal bracts at its base.
