わが国の本州および北海道に分布しています。山地のやや暗い林内に生え、高さは３０〜８０センチになります。茎は直立し、紫褐色の雲状紋があります。葉は鳥足状の複葉で２個つきます。小葉は長楕円形です。４月から６月ごろ、茎頂に淡緑色と白色の縞模様がある仏炎苞に包まれた肉穂花序をつけます。付属体は棒状から棍棒状で変化があります。果実は液果で、秋に赤く熟します。

"Kourai-tennansho" (Arisaema peninsulae) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Honshu and Hokkaido in Japan. It grows in rather dark forests in mountainous areas and is 30-80 cm tall. The stem is erect and has a purplish-brown cloud-like pattern. It has two pedately compound leaves. The leaflets are oblong.
