わが国の本州、紀伊半島以西から四国・九州に分布しています。山地の石灰岩や蛇紋岩などの岩場に生え、高さは１〜３メートルになります。葉は楕円形から卵状披針形で対生します。６月から８月ごろ、枝先に円錐花序をだし、白色の花をいっぱい咲かせます。花冠は直径１センチほどで、やや平開します。

アジサイ科ウツギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Deutzia crenata var. floribunda。英名はありません。

"Ko-utsugi" (Deutzia crenata var. floribunda) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed westward from the Kii Peninsula of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in rocky places on limestone or serpentine soils, and can reach 1-3 m in height. The leaves are elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, and arranged in opposite. The many white flowers on the terminal panicles from June to August. The corolla is about 1 cm across, and spreads out slightly.
