キク科コウゾリナ属の越年草で、学名は Picris hieracioides var. glabrescens。英名はありません。
The "Kozorina" (Picris hieracioides var. glabrescens) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a winter annual herb that is distributed throughout Japan. This herb grows on banks, roadsides and waste places, and can reach 25-100 cm in height. The whole plant is covered with pale brown or red-brown bristles. The Japanese name comes from its rough texture, like after shaving. The yellow flower-heads bloom on the branched flowering stalks from May to October. The flowers close in the afternoon. The young shoot are used as a wild vegetable after boiling.
