わが国の本州、宮城・福島県以南から四国・九州に分布しています。湿った林内に生え、高さは２０〜７０センチになります。葉は広被針形で鋸歯があり、互生します。また葉の先端は尾状に尖ります。７月から８月ごろ、茎の先に両性花と装飾花を咲かせます。装飾花の萼片は３個です。

アジサイ科クサアジサイ属の多年草で、学名は Cardiandra alternifolia (syn. Hydrangea alternifolia)。英名はありません。

The "Kusa-ajisai" (Cardiandra alternifolia) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures of Honshu south to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in moist forests and can reach 20-70 cm in height. The leaves are broad-lanceolate, serrated and alternate. They have caudal tips. The bisexual flowers and neuter flowers come on the tips of the stems from July to August. The neuter flower has 3 sepals.
