わが国の固有種で、本州にだけ分布しています。山地の林縁や草原に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は３出複葉で対生します。８月から９月ごろ、茎の先端や葉腋に集散花序をだし、淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠の下部は筒状で、先端は反り返ります。和名は、葉のかたちが「ぼたん（牡丹）」に似ていることから。 |

キンポウゲ科センニンソウ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Clematis stans。英名はありません。 |

The "Kusa-botan" (Clematis stans) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a deciduous shrub that is endemic to Japan and distributed only to Honshu. This shrub grows on mountain forest edges or grasslands, and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are trifoliate and arranged oppositely. The cymes are borne at the tips of stems or axils, and the pale purple flowers bloom from August to September. The underneath part of corolla is tubular and the tips are recurving. The Japanese name "Kusa-botan" is derives from the leaf-shape resembling the tree peony. |
