	北アメリカ南部が原産です。わが国へは大正時代のはじめに渡来しました。砂防用に植栽されましたが、今では各地に野生化しています。高さは４～５メートルほどになり、羽状複葉です。５月から６月ごろ、総状花序に暗紫色の小さな蝶形花をたくさん咲かせます。葯の黄橙色がよく目立ちます。別名で、「いたちはぎ（鼬萩）」とも呼ばれます。
	マメ科クロバナエンジュ属の落葉低木で、学名は Amorpha fruticosa。英名は False indigo。
	The False indigo (Amorpha fruticosa) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to southern North America. It is introduced into Japan in the early days of Taisho Era (about 90 years ago). This tree was planted for erosion and torrent control, it is naturalized in so many places nowadays. It can reach 4-5 m in height, and the leaves are pinnate compound. The dark purple papilionaceous flowers come in the racemes from May to June. The anthers are yellowish-orange and visible. It is also known as "Itachi-hagi" in Japan.
