くじゃくさぼてん (孔雀サボテン)

メキシコから南アメリカに分布するエピフィルム属（Epiphyllum）とノパルホキア属（Nopalxochia）を中心とした交配によって作出された園芸品種群の総称です。その数は１０００種以上ともいわれます。「さぼてん」といっても棘はなく、全体が偏平で多肉質の葉状茎です。５月から６月ごろ、直径１５〜２０センチの豪華な花を咲かせます。花色も赤色や赤紫色、白色、黄色、オレンジ色と豊富です。 |

The orchid cactus (Epiphyllum hybrids) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is garden origin. It is cultivar-groups which were cross breeded mainly between Epiphyllum genera and Nopalxochia genera, and they consist of up to 1000 varieties. The plant is sucullent, phyllocladous (flattened leaf-like stems) and spineless. The flowers are spectacular, 15-20 cm across, and bloom from May to June. There are many flower-colors; red, magenta, white, yellow and orange. |
