わが国の本州、中部地方の白馬山系および周北極地方に隔離分布しています。氷河期の遺存種です。高山帯の湿った砂礫地に生え、高さは１〜１２センチほどになります。根生葉は腎形で浅く５〜７裂し、葉柄があります。８月ごろ、茎頂に黄色い花を咲かせます。果実は楕円形の集合果です。

キンポウゲ科キンポウゲ属の多年草で、学名は Ranunculus pygmaeus。英名は Pygmy buttercup、Dwarf buttercup。

The Pygmy buttercup (Ranunculus pygmaeus) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is isolated and distributed in the Hakuba Mountains of Chubu regions in the Honshu, Japan and in the Arctic circumpolar region. It is a relict of the glacial period. It grows in moist sandy gravel in the alpine zone and grows 1 to 12 cm tall. The basal leaves are kidney-shaped, shallowly lobed with 5 to 7 lobes and petioles. Yellow flowers bloom at the top of the stem around August. The fruit is an elliptic aggregate fruit.
