The "Kuma-narihira" (Semiarundinaria fortis) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a bumboo that is distributed in the southern part of Kyushu in Japan. Its center is from the Kuma River basin to Hitoyoshi City in Kumamoto Prefecture. The culms are 8 m tall and 3 to 4 cm in diameter. The nodes are somewhat swollen, and the internodes are long, with some reaching 50 cm or more. The number of branches from the nodes is three in the first year, but more than doubles in the second year. The leaves are lanceolate and hairless, and the main veins on the underside are covered with minute hairs. In the Red List Kumamoto 2024, it is classified as DD (Deficient Information) because the possibility that it is a cultivated species cannot be denied.
