ヨーロッパアルプス、アペニン山脈それにピレネー山脈に分布しています。標高７００〜３１００メートルの岩礫地などに生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。ロゼットは小さく、白い綿毛が密生しています。成長点を中心に蜘蛛の巣状の糸がでるのが特徴です。夏に暗い赤色の花を咲かせます。花後、種子ができると枯死するそうです。

The cobweb houseleek (Sempervivum arachnoideum) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the European Alps, the Apennines and the Pyrenees. This herb grows on rocky gravel at an altitude of 700 to 3100 m and up to a height of about 10 cm. The rosette is small and densely populated with white fluff. It is characterized by spider web-like threads appearing around the growth point. The dark red flowers come in summer. After flowering, it will die when seeds are formed.
