中国の南部、四川省から貴州省、雲南省に分布しています。標高２１００〜３４００メートルの山地に生え、高さは２〜５メートルになります。４月から５月ごろ、葉腋の集散花序に、白色の筒状花を咲かせます。果実は楕円形の核果で、青黒色に熟します。種小名は、フランスの宣教師・植物採集家、ジャン・マリー・デラヴェ（Jean Marie Delavay）に因みます。また、中国語では「山桂花（shan gui hua）」と呼ばれます。

モクセイ科モクセイ属の常緑低木で、学名は Osmanthus delavayi。英名は Delavay tea olive。

The Delavay tea olive (Osmanthus delavayi) belongs to Oleaceae (the Olive family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in southern China, from Sichuan Province to Guizhou Province and Yunnan Province. It grows in mountainous areas at an altitude of 2100 to 3400 m and reaches a height of 2 to 5 m. From April to May, white tubular flowers bloom in cymose inflorescences in the leaf axils. The fruit is an elliptic drupe that ripens to a blue-black color. The specific epithet is named after Jean Marie Delavay (1834-1895), a French missionary and botanist. In Chinese, it is called "山桂花" (shan gui hua).
