The Bridal creeper (Asparagus asparagoides) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in eastern and southern Africa. It grows in forests, shrublands, and riverbanks, wrapping around and climbing up nearby objects, reaching 2-3 m in length. The tuber is spindle-shaped and enlarged. The phyllode, which looks like a normal leaf, is about 3 cm long and ovate with a pointed tip and parallel veins. The phyllodes are glossy. In winter, it produces two or three greenish-white flowers on a narrow stalk. The berry ripens to a dark purple color. It is sometimes grown as an ornamental, but is considered an invasive plant in Australia and New Zealand.
