The Yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia vulgaris var. davurica) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Sakhalin and Siberia. This herb grows in montane marshes and it can reach 40-80 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate to narrow elliptic, entire, and arranged in opposite or 3-4 whorled. The scented bright yellow flowers bloom in the terminal or axilary panicles from July to August. It is also called "Iou-so" (sulfur grass) which derived from its yellow corolla. The fruit is a capsule. Its Japanese name means "grass that resembles a tree called "redama" (Spanish broom) in the Fabaceae family", but its flowers do not resemble "redama" very much. In Chinese, it is called "黄蓮花" (huang lian hua).
