The Reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a pernnial herb that is distributed throughout Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It grows in wetlands, waterside areas, and riverbanks, and grows in clusters with underground stems that grow 1 to 1.8 m tall. From May to June, it produces spikelets in spikelets and many greenish-white spikelets. It is called "鷸草" in Taiwanese and "鷸草" (ge cao) in Chinese.
