The Reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a pernnial herb that is distributed throughout Japan, as well as Taiwan. the Korean Peninsula and China. It grows in wetlands, waterside areas, and riverbanks, and grows in clusters with underground stems that grow 1 to 1.8 m tall. From May to June, it produces spikelets in spikelets and many greenish-white spikelets. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "鷸草" and "鷸草" (ge cao) in Chinese.
