The Camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) belongs to Lauraceae (the Laurel family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed widely from Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan to the temperate and tropical areas. This tree can reach 20-50 m in height, and barks are yellowish-brown, rough and fissured vertically. Leaves are ovate to elliptic, and have a glossy, waxy appearance. This tree contains camphor, and smells when crushed by hand. Masses of small yellowish-white flowers on the panicles come in from May to June. Fruits are berries and ripen purplish-black in fall. Some of old leaves are turn red and fall when new leaves foriate. It is called "樟樹" in Taiwanese Chinese.
