わが国の本州、東北南部から近畿地方の太平洋側に分布しています。林縁などに生え、高さは１５～２５センチになります。葉は卵形で、低い鋸歯かあります。５月から６月ごろ、淡い紅紫色で皿状に開く花を咲かせます。花冠には紅紫色の条があります。果実は蒴果で、兜の鍬形に似ています。

ゴマノハグサ科クワガタソウ属の多年草で、学名は Veronica miqueliana。英名はありません。

"Kuwagata-so" (Veronica miqueliana) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Pacific Ocean Side, from southern Tohoku district to Kinki district of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows in forest edges and can reach 15-25 cm in hight. The leaves are ovate with low toothed edges. The pale magenta, saucer-shaped flowers bloom from May to June. The corolla has magenta stripes. The fruits are capsules and resemble to the hoe-shaped helmet crest.
