The "Kuma-yabu-sotetsu" (Cyrtomium anomophyllum) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed in the mountains of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan, as well as in Taiwan, southeastern China and the Himalayas. It grows in the forest undergrowth, and is 25 to 70 cm tall. The leaves are pinnate compound with a whitish tinge of green, and are slightly glossy and papery. There are 3 to 7 pairs of lateral pinnae, and sometimes 1 to 3 lobes are produced on the lower side of the lowest pinna. The sorus is round, and the indisum is blackish brown. In Taiwanese, it is called "Šï—tŠÑ眾˜n" and in Chinese, "Šï—tŠÑO" (qi ye guan zhong). In Japan, it is classified as CR (Critically Endangered) on the Red List.
