くずいも (葛芋) [Index] [Back] 中央アメリカが原産です。現在では、熱帯地方で広く栽培されています。蔓性で、葉は３出複葉です。花は白色から紫色の蝶形花で、総状花序に咲かせます。塊根は大きく球形または細長で、直径は４０センチほど、重さは１５キログラム以上になります。塊根の肉色は白く、生食されたり調理して利用されます。 マメ科クズイモ属の多年草で、学名は Pachyrhizus erosus。英名は Yam bean。 The yam bean (Pachyrhizus erosus) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Central America. Nowadays, it is caltivated widely in the tropical areas. This herb is a vine with trifoliate leaves. The flowers are white to purple, papilionacenous and bloom in the racemes. The tuber is large, spherical or elongated, about 40 cm diameter and up to 15 kg weight.
