The Blue grasstree (Xanthorrhoea glauca) belongs to the family Xanthorrhoeaceae. It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to southeastern Australia. It grows in open hardwood forests and among shrubs, reaching a height of about 5 m. It has a massive stem or trunk adapted to fire, and its growth is extremely slow. The leaves are linear and gray or bluish-green with a waxy coating. Triggered by the heat of wildfires and the ethylene gas contained in the smoke, the plant blooms all at once. From the center of the trunk, it produces long, upright spike-like inflorescences, densely covered with thousands of small cream-colored to white flowers.
