Xanthorrhoea sp.

The grass tree (Xanthorrhoea sp.) belongs to the family Xanthorrhoeaceae. It is an evergreen shrub or perennial herb that is endemic to Australia and has 32 species, including species and subspecies. It grows in sunny, well-drained areas and can reach several meters in height. Although it grows very slowly, it has a lifespan of over 600 years. The leaves are linear and tough. Especially after wildfire, long flower stalks are extended from the shoot apex to produce spikes and white flowers bloom. The Aboriginal people have called the plant "Balga (Black boy)" because of its blackened stems and leaves spreading from the shoot apex after it was burned in the wildfire.
