南アメリカの西部からベネズエラ北西部に分布しています。おもに湿った熱帯バイオームに生え、樹木の幹などに着生するか、ときには地上に生えます。日陰を好み、高さは６０〜１５０センチになります。卵形から楕円形の偽球茎から、披針形から長楕円形の葉をだします。ほとんど一年中、花茎をだして総状花序にピンク色の花を咲かせます。花の直径は２〜３センチです。種小名は、ギリシャ語の「ライオン（leon）」＋「舌（glossa）」に因みます。

ラン科キシロビウム属の常緑多年草で、学名は Xylobium leontoglossum (syn. Maxillaria leontoglossa)。英名はありません。

The Xylobium leontoglossum belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from western South America to northwestern Venezuela. It grows mainly in moist tropical biomes, attached to tree trunks and other vegetation, or sometimes on the ground. It prefers shade and grows 60 to 150 cm tall. It produces lanceolate to long ovate leaves from an ovate to elliptic pseudobulb. It produces scapes and racemes of pink flowers almost all year round. The flowers are 2 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The specific epithet is derived from the Greek word for "leonto" (lion's) + "glossa" (tongue).
