The Round-leaf coral tree (Erythrina crista-galli cv. Maruba-deigo) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is a cultivated variety of the Coral tree, native to southeastern Brazil and northern Argentina. It grows to a height of 5 to 10 m. The leaves are trifoliate, with ovate leaflets and blunt to rounded tips. From June to September, rounded, bright red, butterfly-shaped flowers bloom in racemes at the stem tips. The flowers produce abundant nectar, attracting many insects.
