The fig marigold (Lampranthus spectabilis) belongs to Aizoaceae (the Ice plant family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the Cape Province of South Africa. This herb grows in arid areas and can reach about 30 cm in height. The stem spreads by creeping on the ground and lignifies when aging. The pink to purple flowers, about 5 cm in diameter come in May to July. Fig marigold is comprising about 10 species of genus Lampranthus, their hybrids, and closely related genus Cephalophyllum in horticulture.
