わが国の本州から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。丘陵や山地に生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。葉は３出複葉で、楕円形から倒卵形の小葉の先がときにへこみます。８月から１０月ごろ、葉腋から基部の葉より短い総状花序をだし、紅紫色の花を咲かせます。

マメ科ハギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Lespedeza cyrtobotrya。英名は Leafy lespedeza、Leafy bush-clover。

The leafy lespedeza (Lespedeza cyrtobotrya) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula and China. This tree grows in foothills or mountains and can reach 1-2 m in height. The leaves are trifoliate with elliptic to obovate leaflets. The leaflet is sometimes emarginate at the tip. The racemes which shoter than leaf blade are borne on the axiles and the magenta flowers bloom from August to October.
