わが国の各地をはじめ、北半球の高緯度地域に広く分布しています。高山帯のやや湿った地上に生え、高さは７〜８センチになります。褐色の樹状地衣で、群生して大きな群落を作ります。地衣体は著しく管状となり、偽盃点（地衣体の表面にできる模様でガス交換に役立っている）が裂片の縁にそってできます。

ウメノキゴケ科エイランタイ属の地衣類で、学名は Cetraria laevigata。英名は Cetraria lichen。

The cetraria lichen (Cetraria laevigata) belongs to the Parmeliaceae family. It is a lichen that is widely distributed in the high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, including various parts of Japan. This lichen grows on the slightly moist ground of the alpine zone and can reach 7-8 cm in height. It is a brown fruticose lichen that grows in clusters to form large communities. The thallus is significantly tubular, with pseudocyphellae (patterns on the surface of the thallus that help with gas exchange) along the edges of the lobes.
