中国の北西部が原産です。高さは８メートル、幅は１０メートルになります。葉は深く分裂し、秋には黄葉します。花は白色で春に咲きます。果実は小さく黄赤色で、直径８ミリです。観賞用や他のリンゴの台木として利用されています。中国語では「花葉海棠（hua ye hai tang）」と呼ばれます。

The Cut-leaf crabapple (Malus transitoria) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to north-western China. This tree grows to 8 m tall by 10 m wide. The leaves are deeply divided and turn yellow in fall. The flowers are white and bloom in spring. The fruit is small, yellowish red and 8 mm in diameter. It is cultivated as an ornamental tree and also used as rootstock for other apples. It is called "花葉海棠" (hua ye hai tang) in Chinese.
