わが国の固有種で、北海道の西南部それに本州の東北地方から鳥取県の日本海側に分布しています。多雪地の山地に生え、高さは２〜５メートルになります。葉は倒卵形で互生し、上半部は円形かややへこみます。３月から４月ごろ、前年枝の葉腋から花柄を伸ばし黄色い花を咲かせます。花弁の赤いものは「あかばなまんさく（f.incarnata）」、花弁の基部だけが赤いものは「にしきまんさく（f. flavo-purpurascens）」と呼ばれます。 |

マンサク科マンサク属の落葉高木で、学名は Hamamelis japonica var. obtusata (syn. Hamamelis japonica var. discolor f. obtusata)。英名はありません。 |

The "Maruba-mansaku" (Hamamelis japonica var. obtusata) belongs to Hamamelidaceae (the Witch hazel family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is an endemic species of Japan. This tree is distributed from southwest Hakkaido south to the Japan Sea side of Honshu. This tree grows in mountains of the region of heavy snow and it can reach 2-5 m in height. Leaves are obovoid, alternate with round or slightly concave edges. Yellow flowers on new twigs come from March to April. There are several forma such as "Akabana-mansaku" (f. incarnata) with red petals, "Nishiki-mansaku" (f. flavo- purpurascens) with red tinged base of petals. |
