わが国の本州中部、三重・岐阜・愛知・長野の各県と朝鮮半島、中国に分布しています。湿地の周辺などに生え、高さは８〜１０メートルになります。葉は広卵状円形から卵形で互生します。４月ごろ、葉の展開と同時に総状花序をだし、真っ白な花を咲かせます。果実は直径１センチほどの球形で、褐色に熟します。

バラ科ナシ属の落葉高木で、学名は Pyrus calleryana。英名は Callery pear。

The Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to central Honshu, Mie, Gifu, Aichi and Nagano prefecture in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and China. This tree grows around the marshes and can reach 8-10 m in height. The leaves are broad ovate-round to ovate and alternate. The racemes are borne and the pure white flowers bloom as soon as foliation in April. The fruits are round about 1 cm across and ripen in brown.
