アメリカの中南部、テキサス州からニューメキシコ州、それにメキシコの北部から東部に分布しています。乾燥した地域に、ふつうは単独で生えます。茎は押し潰したような緑色の球形で、高さは５センチ、直径は１２センチほどになります。中棘は１個あり角状で、縁棘は白い剛毛状で１５〜２２個あります。花は直径２センチほどのクリーム色で、濃い色の条斑が花弁の真ん中に入ります。果実は液果で赤く熟します。 |

The little nipple cactus (Mammillaria heyderi ssp. heyderi) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen perennial herbacious plant that is distributed Texas and New Mexico in the United States, northand east Mexico. This cactus grows in arid areas and generally solitary. Stem is depressed globose, green, 5 cm high and 12 cm in diameter. Central spine is one and horny, radial spines are 15-22, white and bristly. Flowers are 2 cm in diameter, cream colored with darker midstripe. Fruits are berries and ripen red. |
