アメリカのテキサス州、メキシコ、キューバに分布しています。高さは１０センチ、幅５センチほどになります。冬の終わりから春先にかけて、淡い黄白色の花を咲かせます。果実は赤く熟し、食べることができます。園芸上は「きんしょうぎょく（金松玉）」と呼ばれます。

サボテン科マミラリア属の疣サボテンで、学名は Mammillaria prolifera。英名は Little candles、Silver cluster cactus。

The little candles (Mammillaria prolifera) bolongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen perennial cactus that is native from Texas in the United States to Mexico and Cuba. This cactus can reach about 10 cm in height, 5 cm in diameter. Pale yellowish-white flowers come from last winter to early spring. Fruits are berrise and ripen red, edible.
