The Rose pincushion cactus (Mammilaria zeilmanniana) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen wart cactus that is found in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. It grows in narrow canyons in humid riparian zones in areas of origin between 1700 and 1950 m above sea level, growing up to 12 cm tall and 8 cm wide. When young, they have woolly spines that change to 13-15 radial spines and 4 hooked central spines as they mature. The flowers are about 2 cm across, usually reddish purple, and are arranged in a ring at the top of the plant. This species is listed as an endangered species due to its extremely restricted range. Horticulturally, it is called "Tsukikage-maru" in Japan.
