北アメリカ東部に分布する「ながばみずあおい（長葉水葵）」の変種です。浅い水中や湿地に生え、高さは６０〜９０センチになります。葉は長心形で先端は鈍頭、長い葉柄があります。６月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に穂状花序をだし、青紫色の花を咲かせます。上弁には、二つの切れ目のある黄色い斑点があります。花は一日花です。

ミズアオイ科 ポンテデリア属の多年草で、学名は Pontederia cordata var. cordata。英名は Lance-leaf pickerelweed。

The lance-leaf pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata var. cordata) belongs to Pontederiaceae (the Pickerelweed family). It is a variety of Pickerelweed that is native to eastern North America. This herb grows in shallow waters and marshes, and can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are long cordate with obtuse tips and long petioles. The spikes are borne on the top of stems and the bluish-purple flowers bloom from June to October. The distal central lobe of flower has two lobed yellow spot. The flowers last one day.
